91È«ÄÜ´óÉñ is a holistic School of excellence for boys, offering leading facilities and a distinguished Faculty that supports a broad range of academic, physical, and personal pursuits. Our students benefit from an extensive breadth of educational opportunities that span intellectual, sporting, social, emotional, and spiritual development, fostering their comprehensive growth and wellbeing.

Within this unique educational environment, students are encouraged to excel in their chosen fields, guided by expert teachers dedicated to helping each boy become the best version of himself.

The essence of 91È«ÄÜ´óÉñ’s pedagogical philosophy is to cultivate well-rounded individuals, with the arts as much a valued endeavour in building good men as our intellectual offerings. We aim to shape young men who contribute positively to their communities and society.

This well-rounded approach has led to a record-breaking number of HSC Showcase nominations, with 73 nominations this year, surpassing the previous highest achievement set by the 2023 cohort.

ARTEXPRESS

ARTEXPRESS showcases a broad spectrum of major works from the Higher School Certificate, serving as an exemplary teaching and learning resource that embodies best practices in Visual Arts education. Its purpose is to celebrate student achievements, fostering a connection among communities through the visual arts.

Over the last decade, ARTEXPRESS has showcased the works of more than 3,000 students. This event has evolved into a highly anticipated occasion on Sydney’s cultural calendar, gaining recognition both nationally and internationally.
91È«ÄÜ´óÉñ’s nominated student, Michael Yang is to be commended on his consideration for this highly competitive exhibition in 2025.

Native Silence delves into the binary between Michael’s dual heritage as a recent immigrant navigating the rich cultural landscapes of China and Australia.

Inspired by his newfound passion for drawing and photography, Michael’s Major Work delves into the interplay between these two creative realms as a means of mitigating the personal tensions of feeling torn between them. Through motifs such as Chinese calligraphy, it embodies a unique fusion of cultural influences, serving as both a journey of self-discovery and a materialisation of the universal struggle to balance the preservation of one’s roots and heritage while embracing a new world and identity.

Encore

The Encore Concert, to be held next year at the Sydney Opera House on Monday 24 February, provides a platform to showcase outstanding performances, compositions and musicology essays from this year’s HSC cohort. At 91È«ÄÜ´óÉñ, musical achievement has always been celebrated as a complement to academic success, and this year is no exception.

In their Music 2 and Music Extension courses, Charlie Corbett-Jones, Max Kim, Alan Li and Chris Mathur demonstrated exceptional skill by delivering performances of six pieces at an exemplary standard, leading to their well-deserved nominations. Charlie’s French horn repertoire included works by Brahms, Hindemith, Howes, F. Strauss, R. Strauss and Weber; while Max’s Viola repertoire consisted of works by J.S.Bach, Bridge, Clarke, Dean, Seiber and Walton. Alan’s Violin programme featured works by Debussy, Sibelius, Stanhope, Strauss, Schoenfeld and Wieniawski; while Chris’ French horn repertoire included compositions by Ewazen, Glière, Mozart and Sinigaglia, and recognised the wonderful contributions of female composers with pieces from Likhuta and Vignery.

All students incorporated an Australian piece composed in the last 25 years into their Music 2 programmes and presented an ensemble piece in their Extension programme. Being nominated for the prestigious Encore Concert is a significant honour, and Charlie, Max, Alan and Chris are to be congratulated on this remarkable achievement.
